Hendrick Benefit Summary
Hendrick offers a variety of affordable benefits to our employees and their families. All full-time employees are eligible for voluntary plans and health insurance coverage the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. Benefits are subject to change at the discretion of Hendrick Medical Center and its affiliates.
Health Insurance Plan - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Our medical insurance includes two plans: Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) & Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This is offered to the employee at a minimal cost. Employees may enroll in health coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. FirstCare and FirstCare Preferred are effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment.
Basic Group Life Insurance - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. Premiums are paid for the employee by HHS for term life insurance at the value of one and one-half times the employee's annual base salary. This benefit also includes coverage for accidental death and dismemberment.
Dental Plan - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Employees may enroll in dental coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment.
Vision Plan - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Employees may enroll in vision coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment.
Long Term Disability Plan (LTD) - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Employees may enroll in LTD coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. Premiums are based on employee's age and annual salary.
Short Term Disability Plan - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Employees may enroll in STD coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. Premiums are based on employee's age and annual salary.
Critical Illness - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Employees may enroll in Critical Illness coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Employees may enroll in Portable Life Insurance coverage by calling our benefit enrollment center—BCI 1-877-540-6761-- within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. Several options are available and premiums depend on options selected.
Portable Life Insurance - Full-time employees are eligible to participate. Voluntary plans are available for employees to purchase additional, portable universal or term life insurance for themselves and/or dependent family members. Coverage requires completion of enrollment form within first 30 days of eligibility or once per year during open enrollment. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following 90 days of employment.
Flexible Spending Accounts - All employees are eligible to participate. This program allows employees to pay certain un-reimbursed medical and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars. Employees may enroll in Flexible Spending (Unreimbursed Medical and/or Dependent Care) by filling out an enrollment form & bank information sheet within the first 30 days of eligibility (hire date or status change date) or once per year during open enrollment. You must enroll in Flexible Spending through HR. You cannot enroll in FLEX by calling the BCI enrollment center. Flexible Spending enrollment forms may be obtained in the Main Human Resources Office in Room 2531.
Annuity/Retirement Plan - Enrollment to our annuity/retirement plan is automatic upon employment for eligible employees. These are long-term savings plans allowing employees to plan for post-employment years. Employees are enrolled to participate at a rate of three percent of their annual salary on a tax-sheltered plan. Hendrick will match the employee's contribution up to three percent.
Paid Time Off -Full-time employees receive this benefit. Paid Time Off (PTO) is a flexible benefit plan combining traditional days off such as vacation, holidays and sick time into one program. All employees classified as full-time who have completed 90 days of continuous employment are eligible for PTO. An eligible employee will begin accruing PTO at the beginning of the pay period following their 90-day anniversary date.

Extended Illness Bank - Full-time employees receive this benefit. Upon accrual, employees may access their Extended Illness Bank (EIB) for personal illness or injury, or family illness after 16 consecutively scheduled work hours missed. Access is immediate upon personal hospitalization, outpatient surgery or maternity leave. Hours are accrued based on tenure and hours worked per pay period. The accrual schedule is as follows:

Bereavement Leave - Full-time employees receive this benefit. This benefit is available to employees upon employment in an eligible category, and within policy guidelines. Employees receive compensation at their base rate for time lost from regularly scheduled work hours due to the death of a family member.
Jury and Witness Duty Leave - Full-time employees receive this benefit. This benefit is available to employees upon employment in an eligible category, and within policy guidelines. Employees receive compensation at their base rate for time lost from regularly scheduled hours due to active jury and/or time lost due to summons as witness for the benefit of HMC.
Leave of Absence - All employees meeting policy guidelines for particular leave. Employees are eligible based on criteria outlined in each leave policy. Proper notification is required. Our leave policies include Military Leave, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and Personal Leave of Absence.
Holiday Pay - All non-exempt employees are eligible for this benefit. Employees are eligible upon employment. Additional compensation is provided for positions scheduled to work on the actual holiday: Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Independence Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
Differential Pay - Specified non-exempt employees are eligible for the benefit. Additional compensation is available to designated positions scheduled to work certain hours or on weekends. The eligibility is outlined in the differential policy.
Tuition Reimbursement for Critical need Hires - As part of the mission of Hendrick Medical Center, the tuition reimbursement program provides financial assistance to students and employees for their education in designated healthcare fields.
Discounts - All employees. Employees will receive the prevailing discount when purchasing food in the cafeteria. This discount applies to employees only. In addition, the employees may payroll deduct cafeteria purchases.
Employee Health Services - Employee Health Services is available to all employees. Upon employment, Employee Health verifies immunizations are current; offer Hepatitis B injection series to OSHA Category I or II employees. Annual TB screenings, voluntary annual HIV screening, voluntary blood pressure assessment, annual flu vaccines, and also facilitate return to work releases.
Hendrick Health Club - Hendrick Health Club is located adjacent to the medical center provided for all employees at a discounted rate. Services include personalized exercise programs, aerobic and training equipment.
ProCare Worker Injury Program - All employees are eligible upon employment. Employees are eligible upon employment. Appropriate documentation is required. This program provides for payment of medical expenses and partial salary continuation in the event of a work-related injury or illness approved for coverage under the program.
Blood Bank - All employees. Employees may ensure an adequate supply of blood for themselves and their family should the need arise.
Employee Events - All employees. Hendrick sponsors several employee events throughout the year.
Employee Service Awards - All employees. Hendrick recognizes employee’s dedication and loyalty to Hendrick and affiliates. Awards are presented annually to employees who have reached eligible years of service beginning at five years of employment.
Parking - All employees. Free parking is provided in designated lots for all employees.
Classifications of Employment:
- Full-time employees are hired to work at least 36 hours per week on a regular basis and whose employment is for no definite term.
- Part-time employees are hired to work less than 36 hours per week on a regular basis and whose employment is for no definite term.
- Temporary employees are hired for a specific period of time established upon employment or employees who are hired for an indefinite period of time and utilized as a resource to be called upon as need arises.
Eligible employees may donate a maximum of 40 PTO hours to other full-time employees who have been unable to work their regularly scheduled shifts for an extended period of time due to illness and disability. Employees wishing to donate time should submit a Request to Donate PTO hours form. (The Director of Human Resources must approve all requests.)
