Hendrick Asthma Education Program
Asthma is the most chronic disorder in childhood, affecting 7.1 million children. It is a leading cause of school absenteeism and child hospitalization. The National Center for Environmental Health estimates that over 60 million people have asthma.
Asthma is an inflammatory disorder of the airways causing attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. When an asthma attack occurs, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight, and the lining of the air passages swells. This reduces the amount of air that can pass. Many asthma sufferers have a family history of allergies, while others have no history at all.
The asthma care team at Hendrick specializes in diagnosing and treating the disorder in patients of all ages. By helping you develop an individual treatment plan, and by offering accurate and up-to-date education, our staff serves as a valuable member of your asthma management team.
