Hendrick Hospice Care has recently achieved We Honor Veterans Level Three status. The We Honor Veterans campaign provides tiered recognition to organizations that demonstrate a systematic commitment to improving care for veterans. “Partners” assess their ability to serve veterans and integrate best practices for providing end-of-life care to veterans.
“We are very proud to have accomplished Level Three in the We Honor Veterans program sponsored by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization,” said Melissa Montes Luton, community outreach manager for Hendrick Hospice Care. “The relationship we have built with the Veterans Administration has been very beneficial for our agency, patients and families.”
Hendrick Hospice Care met stringent requirements to achieve level three, helping to improve the care the team of paid and unpaid staff provides the veterans they serve. The nation is seeing many of the veterans who served during World War II and the Korean War pass away – and the number of deaths of Vietnam veterans is beginning to rise.
“The support of our community in this new endeavor for Hendrick Hospice Care shows how dear our veterans in Abilene and the Big Country truly are to us,” said Luton. “We will continue to educate ourselves and the community on how to better serve our true heroes and thank them for everything they have done for us.”
Hendrick Hospice Care launched its We Honor Veterans program in 2011. Designed to provide staff and volunteers with the tools to respond to veterans, the program provides education and raises awareness of the unique needs of veterans at the end of life.
