Hendrick Hospice Care announces plans for new hospice care facility
Hendrick Hospice Care announced plans to construct a new state-of-the-art hospice care facility at its 30th Anniversary Celebration, March 3.
“We believe it was only fitting to announce future plans for the Hendrick Hospice Care Center at our 30th Anniversary Celebration, surrounded by community members who believe in our mission,” said Norm Archibald, vice president for Hendrick Medical Center. “While it’s important to celebrate and remember our past, we need to look to the future of Hendrick Hospice Care and how to best meet the needs of our community.”
As the need for end-of-life care continues to grow, Hendrick Hospice Care recognizes the importance to provide more inpatient beds to area residents choosing hospice.
The single story, 40,800 square-feet complex will be located two blocks from the main campus, and include inpatient hospice care, bereavement center, home care offices, space for volunteer training, common areas for families and visitors and extensive outdoor landscaping. The inpatient area will have 16 rooms, large enough for families to comfortably stay with their loved ones, with the potential of expansion to eight additional rooms.
“The new facility will give patients and their families more space to spend with each other and provide a home-like environment,” said Karen Tucek, director of Hendrick Hospice Care.
The Hendrick Hospice Care Center will be situated on 8.7 acres and will house all Hospice services. Currently, lack of space requires bereavement and grief programs to meet off campus.
“We are very excited to move everyone under one roof,” said Tucek. “Our current facilities do not include a dedicated area for educational sessions and has very limited space for family gatherings. Additionally, our Hospice team is separated into three buildings located several blocks from the main hospital campus. This will be a wonderful move for everyone.”
Hendrick Hospice Care Center will include:
- 16 patient rooms (with potential expansion for eight additional rooms)
- Adult Family Room
- Teen Family Room
- Kids Family Room
- Bereavement Center and Library
- Administrative and Home Care offices
- Community Room
- Counseling Room
- Extensive outdoor landscaping
The estimated cost of the facility is $10.4 million, with funding primarily from philanthropic gifts. Groundbreaking is scheduled for February 2015, with a projected opening date of May 2016.
