Patient and Family Support
At Hendrick Medical Center, we know the birth of a baby is a major event for your whole family. This is why we recommend family-centered maternity care and are committed to providing the personalized experience you desire.
We encourage family involvement in planning and delivering care. We strive to provide an individualized approach that meets all your needs. We want you to be as comfortable and secure as possible.
When your baby arrives, you are welcome to share your baby with family and friends at your convenience. The Birthplace attempts to maintain a flexible visitation policy allowing you to decide who visits and when. We have recently implemented “Quiet Time” on the Mothercare unit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily to allow new families to rest and bond without interruption. Siblings will not be allowed to remain in the mother’s room overnight due to safety and security precautions.
We hope your experience at Hendrick Medical Center is enriching and fulfilling. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us. And, as your family grows, remember that Hendrick Medical Center is here to help you with your healthcare needs every step of the way.
- Childbirth Classes
The staff at Hendrick Medical Center and your physician encourage and support family participation in childbirth education. The series of three classes is aimed to teach you and your coach information about labor and delivery, pain and stress management skills, choices of pain medications, anesthesia and variations of labor, hospital routines and Cesarean births. We believe a good understanding of the birth process is essential to the health and well-being of you and your baby. Our birth education classes will provide you and your family with the information necessary to allow you to feel as comfortable as possible as you prepare for the birth of your baby. A tour of Labor and Delivery, Nursery and Mothercare is offered during these classes.
- One-Day Childbirth Class
The one-day Childbirth class is offered to moms who have had a previous birth. This class reviews information about the birth process, breathing techniques, pain medications, anesthesia and hospital routines.
- Breastfeeding Class
The breastfeeding class is designed for moms who plan to breastfeed or are considering breastfeeding. Topics covered include the benefits of breastfeeding, positioning techniques, expression of milk and possible common concerns when breastfeeding.
- Sibling Tours
Sibling tours help brothers and sisters prepare for the new arrival, as well as reduce the fear of the hospital and ease separation anxiety that may occur while mom is at the hospital. Call 325.670.3361 to schedule a tour.
Most families take a tour as part of their childbirth education classes. If you are not taking the childbirth classes, or if you haven’t selected a hospital for your maternity care, please call 325.670.4504 to schedule a tour.
