
Asthma Education
Hendrick Pulmonary Rehabilitation partners with Kohl’s Department Stores and its Kohl’s Cares for Kids Program to improve asthma awareness through education. An estimated 3.2 million children in Texas live with asthma. National Health Guidelines promote education as an integral component of effective asthma management.
The Kohl's Kick Asthma Education Program is a year-round asthma awareness and education program. The goal of the program is to promote asthma awareness among children ages 5-17, parents, teachers and school nurses. We teach children and parents how to manage their asthma and keep it under control. The following components are part of the program:
- education programs in area schools
- parent workshops
- teacher workshops
- participation in health fairs held in the community
Each child participating in the school program receives the following:
- One peak flow meter
- A medication spacer device
- Asthma management plan
- Written material with tips for environmental control for the home, trigger and warning sign recognition and understanding your asthma medications
- One equipment back-pack
Goals of Asthma Therapy
- Minimal or no chronic asthma symptoms day or night
- No limitations on activities, no missed school days
- Minimal use of rescue or quick relief inhaler
- Normal lung function
- Minimal or no adverse side-effects from medications Satisfaction with asthma control

Asthma Screening Questionnaire
Does your child experience any of the following?
Chronic cough at night?
Coughing during and/or after exercise?
Tires easily or has trouble keeping up with other children of the same age?
Has colds that often progress into bronchitis?
Often clears his/her throat?
Has seasonal allergies (hayfever, eczema etc.)?
Chest tightness, wheezing and/or shortness of breath after exercise or activity
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please contact your medical provider regarding asthma testing.
