Cheyenne Cowan
Your gifts can take a child from traumatic pain to triumphant healing…
Nine-year-old, Cheyenne Cowan, had been around horses all of her young life and was good at taking care of them. So she and her family were completely shocked when one day, while petting one of the family’s horses, she was suddenly bitten when something spooked their pet horse. The horse not only bit Cheyenne on the chest, right below her throat, but also took off running for some distance, pulling Cheyenne along with him. Cheyenne’s younger sister, Hannah, was close by and went to get their father for help.
The wound caused by the horse’s teeth did traumatic damage to Cheyenne’s skin and when the horse jerked and ran, the muscles below the skin also were torn. After being rushed to Hendrick Trauma Center in an ambulance, the specially trained nurses and doctors at Meek Children’s Hospital then cared for Cheyenne. She went through two major surgeries to repair the muscle tissue that was damaged and now faces several skin graft procedures in the near future.
In the meantime, Cheyenne’s treatment consists of sessions in the hyperbaric chamber at Hendrick Woundcare Center to help her heal properly , and she is seen regularly by a respiratory therapist to make sure the damaged muscles in her chest heal strong enough for her to breathe correctly. Cheyenne has a long road to recovery, but with the equipment, medical staff training and services made possible by your gifts to Children’s Miracle Network, she can stay close to home and get the best treatment available.
Cheyenne ’s miracle story is just one of many seen here at Meek Children’s Hospital each year. By pledging to support Children’s Miracle Network you can make a difference in the lives of children who live right here in the Texas Midwest. Funds donated benefit Meek Children’s Hospital, Hendrick Trauma Center and other children’s services throughout Hendrick.
