Kourtney Lewis

A few weeks after celebrating her seventh birthday, Kourtney Lewis was diagnosed with stage four, B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma that effect lympnodes throughout the body. Kourtney LewisNon-Hodgkin lymphoma is cancer that starts in lymphoid tissue.

The lymphatic system is important for filtering bacteria and cancer cells and carrying fluid from the limbs and internal organs back into the blood and because Kourtney’s cancer was in stage four, there wasn’t any time to waste so she began a series of treatments including chemotherapy. Kourtney later underwent many hours of surgery to remove cancer from her lungs.

Throughout the treatments, blood transfusions, and the many stays in the hospital when her counts would drop, Kourtney met each day with a spirit of hope that surprises many experienced nurses and medical staff. Only about 60% of children diagnosed with this type of cancer survive to be cancer-free but Kourtney is now on her way to remission with the love and support of her family and with the care and equipment provided by Children’s Miracle Network at Meek Children’s Hospital. Because Meek Children’s has the type of care she needs to get better, Kourtney can stay close to her parents, little sister, and be surrounded by friends.
