Miranda Ramirez
The parents of little 19-month old Miranda Ramirez first noticed something was wrong when their usually active girl became lethargic and weak. And like any good parents, they took Miranda to see her doctor – her illness seemed to be a virus and they were given medicine and instructions. But when Miranda only seem to get worse and her fever rose to 106, Elida and Pedro new things were serious and rushed her to Hendrick Trauma Center.
Miranda’s doctor quickly admitted her to Meek Children’s Hospital with severe dehydration. Shortly after settling Miranda in her room, a nurse came to take her vital signs when Miranda’s little body went stiff and her eyes rolled back. She was having a seizure. The nurse yelled for help and more nurses came into the room as Miranda’s parents watched, helpless. Miranda’s airway had become blocked and she required oxygen as soon as the medical staff cleared her airway. Miranda was then moved into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Meek Children’s Hospital for observation until she recovered from what was then diagnosed as Salmonella poisoning.
Miranda is a very lucky and now completely healthy toddler, thanks to the care and equipment provided at Meek Children’s Hospital made possible with dollars donated to Children’s Miracle Network.
