Signs of Diabetes

Common signs of diabetes are:

  • Extreme tiredness
  • Always thirsty and hungry
  • Going to the bathroom frequently, especially at night
  • Blurred vision
  • Numbness and tingling in feet or hands
  • Losing weight without even trying
  • Frequent or recurring infections
  • Cuts or bruises that are slow to heal

In some cases with type 2 diabetes, there are no symptoms. In this case, people can live for months, even years without knowing they have the disease. This form of diabetes develops so gradually that symptoms may not even be recognized. Blood glucose (sugar) levels that are higher than normal can cause serious, permanent damage to the nerves, eyes, kidney and other organs.
