Telemetry Beds

Telemetry beds are those technological equipped rooms that provide heart monitoring. One of those areas is the Progressive Care Unit, sometimes called an Intermediate Care or Step Down unit. This refers to the fact that our patients’ acuity level and needs may put them a brief step away from being in our Critical Care Unit. Telemetry unit patients are 16 years of age or older, who have a need for cardiac monitoring. We also have the ability to video monitor heart patients.

Our most common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, rule out myocardial infarction, acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, coronary artery disease and a variety of cardiac rhythm disturbances. Although we care for many types of telemetry patients, our specialty is in the care of those that have undergone open heart surgery. They routinely come to this step down unit within 24 to 48 hours after their surgery. Nurses work with the patients and meet their needs by education, providing strength building and emotional and moral support with an overall emphasis on a speedy recovery. This is accomplished through a highly skilled, caring team of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, specialty techs and certified nursing assistants.
