Pastoral Care
Hendrick Medical Center began with the vision of a minister and his church in Abilene.
A commitment to minister to persons with the kind of care that Jesus showed during his earthly ministry has characterized Hendrick care from the very beginning.
Even a part of our mission statement reads that we will strive to promote "the mental, spiritual and physical health of area residents in the Christian context as an extension of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ."
The Pastoral Care Department ministers to the spiritual needs of patients and their families as a complement to the efforts of the entire Hendrick Medical Center staff. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you would like to talk with a chaplain you may call 325.670.2256 during the daytime hours. At night, during the weekend, or on holidays a chaplain is always available and can be accessed by calling the hospital operator. The department office is located on the second floor of the Collier Wing, office number 2735.
Hendrick chaplains minister to persons of all faiths. Chaplains provide direct pastoral intervention by offering support to patients and their families through prayer, grief ministry, and referral. In addition, if a patient identifies a church affiliation at the time of admission, we will attempt to notify the church. We will also assist a patient in contacting his or her own minister or faith group representative.
As a member of the Baptist General Convention of Texas' Insititional Minisitries, Hendrick also relates directly to other Baptist hospitals in Texas who share our vision and purpose for Christian health care.
