Physician Recruiter, John McMahon, will help answer your questions about Hendrick and Abilene, as well as make your transition to Hendrick as smooth as possible.
"Abilene is the best place for you to raise your kids. We have clean air, low crime, no traffic and no state income tax. You'll find hospitals everywhere and you as a physician are needed in any given city. However, your family needs to be happy and safe - and that's why Abilene.
We have GREAT schools - as well as three excellent universities. There's all aspects of interest for the kids - athletic activities (golf, tennis and all the regulars - football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer), at least three to four ballet companies, a performing arts group, classical choirs, a great philharmonic, and art abounds - museums, art camps....
Is it hot? Sure it's hot - but we do believe in swimming pools and air conditioning. And the wind does blow - but no where will you find nicer people that truly care about one another.
We are a great place to live - not such a great place to visit. That’s why Abilene. You will not have to worry about a large penetration of managed care and that means you will make more money. You can visit all the great places in the country and not have to deal with the rude people or the traffic on a day-to-day basis. Physicians do very well in Abilene and then enjoy traveling to all those great places."

"I have had a private Internal Medicine practice in Abilene, Texas for the past 27 years and have been solely affiliated with Hendrick Medical Center. I am a native of Abilene and trained at Vanderbilt University. My choices of a practice location were Nashville, Tennessee or Abilene, Texas. These two choices were on opposite ends of the spectrum. Nashville is a large city with a prominent and prestigious medical community, and Abilene is a considerably smaller city with no apparent ties to academia. I have not regretted my choice. The practice of medicine in Abilene is of high quality, the people of West Texas are special, Abilene is a great place to raise children, and this area is a wonderful place to live. We are in the process of bolstering the commitment to quality care by reestablishing the preeminence of Internal Medicine here in Abilene. We are strongly supported by the administration of Hendrick Medical Center who shares in our vision. We are looking for seasoned physicians who know that there is something better out there, and we also are searching for young Internists who want to find a home that is special and challenging. I would invite you to e-mail me at twilliams@hendrickhealth.org if you have further questions. I believe that a high quality of medicine and a special type of life is waiting for you here in Abilene and Hendrick."
