Acute Rehabilitation Services provides Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies throughout Hendrick, including the Trauma Center, Critical Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Meek Children’s Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit and Hendrick Long-Term Acute Care hospital. Patients seen include those who have experienced multiple trauma, cerebral vascular accidents (strokes), orthopedics (hip, arm fractures; total joint replacement), cancer patients, cardiopulmonary patients (heart and lung) and wound care patients. Acute Rehabilitation Services treats wounds of varying diagnoses such as: burns, venous stasis and arterial insufficiency (poor circulation), pressure sores, traumatic and diabetic wounds.
Patients are seen in their rooms and therapists work together to facilitate the patient's return to their lifestyle prior to injury or illness. When a patient is not able to recover fully, they teach adapted techniques that will allow the patient to be as independent as possible. Those patients who need additional therapy or assistance are referred to other facilities such as skilled nursing facilities, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation or long-term care facilities.

Research studies have shown that therapy intervention within the first 24-48 hours after injury or illness results in better outcomes.
