Project 2010

Occupational Therapy and Hand Clinic

Outpatient occupational therapy specializes in working with individuals who have deficits in arm/hand movement, weakness, decreased coordination, limited cognitive skills and/or limited visual perceptual skills. Many patients with these problems have suffered a stroke, head injury, spinal cord injury, arthritis, hand injuries, car accident or chronic illness. When people are limited in these areas, they are not able to complete their daily activities at home, work or play. Our experienced therapists work with the patient to help them return to living life to the fullest.

A referral is needed from a doctor to begin therapy. At the initial visit, the patient is evaluated and a treatment plan is establish to meet the goals of the patient. Occupational therapy is designed to be a blending of hands-on treatment, patient education and progression of functional gains.

Hand Therapy

Hendrick Center for Rehabilitation has three Certified Hand Therapists (CHT's) in the occupational therapy area who specialize in the treatment of individuals with arm/hand injuries or deficits. Our CHTs have a passion for working with people who have arm/hand injuries, as evident by their many years of experience. We treat many problems associated with the upper extremity/hand for both conservative as well as post surgical care. Custom splinting is also a specialized service we provide for our patients. Common diagnoses we treat are:

  • Fractures
  • Tendon Lacerations
  • Nerve Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Trigger Finger
  • Dupuytren's Contracture
  • Tennis Elbow
